TFNL-2014-01-JanuaryWHAT a busy December and January it has been with the Patron’s trophy rounds before the Christmas break and the two January rounds to decide the winners.
The battle went down to the final round on January 23 at Ern Clark Athletic Centre (Coker Park) with Cathy McCloskey and David Carr taking victory. Turn to pages 4-5 for final night’s results.

Early in January more than twenty MAWA athletes headed to Bendigo to compete in the 2014 Oceania Games. A special TFNL on MAWA athletes will be out in a couple of weeks.
The State championships are in March and entries close on February 25. Turn to page 6 for further information.

In this issue Christine Oldfield has an “early bird” offer for her book Right from the Start which covers the history of our club. It will be launched on February 9.
Christine’s profile this month features Margaret Saunders and her love of athletics.

One of the club’s stalwarts Bob Schickert tells of the time he won the Zatopek 10,000m and beat then world record holder Ron Clarke.
John Oldfield highlights some of the stand out performances of the track and field season in his regular Analysis of Results section.

The 2024/25 membership form will be available in early September giving new members 13 months for the price of 12. In the meantime prospective new members should just pay the $5 visitor fee at MAWA events.
